God Provides

This trip feels very spur of the moment to me. I made a sudden decision to take a month of my life to live and work in Israel...and had one month to prepare. Now I know many people have done more on less time, but for me that was a big step.
And God has provided so much!

First off, I needed some over the ankle hiking boots. I don't usually wear that style, and seeing as I don't have a job currently, I wasn't anxious to spend $80 on a new pair of boots I may or may not wear when I get home.
Then someone unexpectedly decided to pay for a new pair of boots! Praise be!

I took a plunge and decided to use all my savings for this trip.
Then someone decided unexpectedly to pay my airline ticket.

Then I needed some clothing.
I unexpectedly found everything I needed on sale.

I went to meet the ladies I am going with.
I unexpectedly realized that I've served on a mission trip with one of the ladies!

I want to stress that I have not asked anyone for any help. Anything I needed I just prayed about. Everything has been provided without asking anyone to do anything.

God has provided jobs so I could earn what I needed. He has provided sales on things I needed to buy. He has sent friends instead of strangers.

It's just really awesome to sit back and see God working, taking care of everything I was worried about.

So first lesson I've learned for this trip:
God Provides.

As Way Leads On Way

This year has flown past. It began inauspiciously. It has ended in a much different way than I ever imagined. This year I have traveled so much and all of it I certainly didn't plan on in January. First I visited Canada and a new niece. Then I visited Bolivia on a mission trip. Then I moved and began looking for a job thinking my traveling for the year was complete.
And then one weekend I had this amazing offer:

One month in Israel.
Volunteering at an archeology dig on the Sea of Galilee.
Room and board paid.
Did I want to go?

YES I wanted to go!

So here I am preparing for a month in Israel. During the day I will get my fingers in the dirt and dig into the past of Israel in the town Mary Magdala was from. Weekends and evenings I will have chances to explore the countryside and learn about the present day culture.

This is going to be an amazing journey.

Journeys of life

Aventura de la vida. The Adventure of Life.

Life is such a journey. And you can take Life to mean the physical one or the spiritual one. Both are a journey together toward the end.

It's interesting to keep a journal or blog or some record of the journey. Opinions and feelings change. New paths and ways pop up. Detours happen.

Recently I was studying poems and the classic Robert Frost poem, "The Road Not Taken" caught my eye.

Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth.

Then took the other, as just as fair,
And having perhaps the better claim,
Because it was grassy and wanted wear;
Though as for that the passing there
Had worn them really about the same.

And both that morning equally lay
In leaves no step had trodden black.
Oh, I kept the first for another day!
Yet knowing how way leads on to way,
I doubted if I should ever come back.

I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I--
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.

And here is the idea for this blog. I am noticing more and more the path of my life. I don't know what is beyond the bend in the road. I only know where I am presently. And where I've been in the past. And I want to share it with you. I want to share the adventure I am experiencing in every day life as I endeavor to follow my Jesus. To follow His pathway. Because after all, it's not about me. It's about what God wants to do in and through me. And that's the real adventure.
